Art & Fine Art Moving

Museum-quality care for your valuable artwork and sculptures

About This Service

Karl On Wheels specializes in moving fine art, paintings, sculptures, and valuable collections throughout Cornwall Bridge and the Litchfield County area. We treat every piece with the respect and careful handling it deserves, whether it's a family heirloom or a gallery-quality collection.

Why Art Needs Specialized Moving

Moving artwork isn't like moving regular household items. Paintings can be damaged by improper handling, temperature fluctuations, or even the wrong packing materials. Sculptures need custom support to prevent stress fractures. At Karl On Wheels, we understand that your art often represents significant financial investment, personal memories, or both.

Since starting Karl On Wheels in 2019, I've learned that the key to moving art successfully is taking the time to do it right. That means proper assessment, the right materials, and never rushing. Whether you're a collector in Cornwall Bridge downsizing to a smaller home, or you're moving a cherished family portrait to a new house in Litchfield County, we treat every piece with the same level of care.

Local Art Moving Expertise

The Litchfield Hills area has a vibrant arts community, and we've been privileged to work with local artists, collectors, and galleries throughout the region. We understand the unique challenges of moving art in and out of historic homes with narrow doorways and steep staircases. We've navigated winding country roads with valuable cargo and know how to protect your pieces during transport.

If you're planning to move artwork, give us a call at 860-499-0406. We'll talk through what you have, answer your questions honestly, and create a plan that gives you peace of mind. Because we don't just move art. We help you protect what matters during a major life transition.

How It Works

1

Custom Packing & Protection

We use museum-quality materials including acid-free paper, custom-cut foam, and protective crating. Larger sculptures and installations get individually designed support structures.

2

Secure Transportation

Your artwork travels in our well-maintained trucks with proper climate control and suspension. Pieces are secured to prevent any shifting during transport.

3

Careful Placement & Unwrapping

We carefully uncrate and position each piece exactly where you want it. We'll even help with hanging and placement if needed, and remove all packing materials.

Pricing

Pricing varies based on size, value, and special requirements. Contact us at 860-499-0406 for a personalized quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you move large sculptures and installations?
Yes. We've moved everything from bronze garden sculptures to large contemporary installations. We'll build custom supports and crating as needed. For particularly large or complex pieces, Karl will come out to assess the logistics personally.
How do you protect valuable paintings during transport?
We use acid-free glassine paper next to the artwork surface, followed by foam corner protectors and rigid cardboard or wooden crating depending on the piece's value and fragility. Paintings always travel flat or upright, never at an angle.
Can you move an entire art collection?
Absolutely. We've worked with collectors in the Cornwall Bridge and Litchfield area to move entire home galleries and collections. We can create detailed inventory lists and work with your insurance company to document condition before and after the move.
What if my artwork needs climate control?
Our trucks can maintain stable temperature and humidity levels for sensitive pieces. This is especially important during Connecticut's humid summers or cold winters when moving oil paintings or works on paper.
Do you help with hanging and installation?
Yes, we can help position and hang artwork as part of your move. We'll make sure pieces are properly secured to studs and hung at the right height. For complex installations or gallery-style arrangements, we're happy to take the time to get it right.
How far in advance should I book art moving services?
For complex collections or pieces requiring custom crating, we recommend booking at least two weeks in advance. This gives us time to source materials and plan the logistics properly. For simpler moves, we can often accommodate shorter notice.
